Stabenow Presses For 'Cash-Out' Health Plans

Health. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., today renewed her call for bipartisan healthcare reform legislation that is based on a "cash-out" plan. The bill puts the burden of insurance on individuals rather than employers. Companies would then have to give money that would have otherwise been spent on health care back to the workers in their salaries, which then becomes taxable income. The tax revenue generated from this would then be used as subsidies for individuals who would not be able to afford health insurance on their own.
