Obama Secures Four More Superdelegates
Politics. Democratic Reps. Brad Miller of North Carolina, Rick Larsen of Washington, Donald Payne of New Jersey -- a former backer of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York -- and Peter DeFazio of Oregon are among the latest superdelegates to pledge support for Democratic presidential frontrunner Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., the Associated Press reported. The endorsements have all but erased the lead among national convention superdelegates once held by Clinton. DeFazio plans to campaign with Obama today in advance of the May 20 Oregon primary. In addition, Obama picked up the backing of superdelegate John Gage, president of the American Federation of Government Employees. The union will also back his candidacy for the White House. Payne told The Star-Ledger in Newark that his shift from Clinton was "one of the most difficult decisions I have made." He added: "After careful consideration, I have reached the conclusion that Barack Obama can best bring about the change that our country so desperately wants and needs."
