Fossella Admits He's Fathered Child Outside Of His Marriage

Thu. May 8, 2008

People. Rep. Vito Fossella, R-N.Y., acknowledged today that he fathered a daughter with Laura Fay, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel who picked him up from jail last week following his arrest on charges of driving while intoxicated, the Staten Island Advance reported. "I have had a relationship with Laura Fay, with whom I have a 3-year-old daughter," Fossella said in a prepared statement. "My personal failings and imperfections have caused enormous pain to the people I love and I am truly sorry." Fossella and wife, Mary Pat, have three children. "While I understand that there will be many questions, including those about my political future, making any political decisions right now are furthest from my mind," he said. Some have suggested he might resign or not seek re-election. While Fosella pledged to keep working, he got little support from his colleagues. "I think Mr. Fossella is going to have some decisions to make over the weekend," House Minority Leader Boehner said. "This is a decision between he, his family, and his constituents."
