Bush Urging Congress To Boost Food Aid
Agriculture. President Bush is asking Congress this afternoon to approve $770 million in additional funding for global food aid, the Associated Press reported. The funds are aimed at meeting immediate needs and bolstering programs that help communities increase productivity and to boost trade. Emergency food aid has become a more urgent issue recently because of dramatically higher food costs that, combined with high gas prices and rising home foreclosures, are putting a squeeze on consumers at home and abroad.
