Pelosi Not Pumped Up By Gas-Tax Suspension
House Speaker Pelosi opposes a gas-tax moratorium aimed at easing prices at the pump, rejecting a proposal backed by Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., Bloomberg News reported.
"There's no reason to believe that a moratorium on the gas tax will be passed on to the consumer," Pelosi told reporters Thursday.
Clinton and presumptive Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain of Arizona say suspending the 18.4-cents-per-gallon tax would give some relief from gasoline prices now averaging $3.60 a gallon.
