Allard Endorses Wilson In New Mexico Senate Contest

Tue. Apr. 29, 2008

Weighing into a contested primary in a neighboring state, Sen. Wayne Allard, R-Colo., said Monday he is supporting GOP Rep. Heather Wilson in her bid for the seat Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., will vacate.

“Heather Wilson is a common-sense conservative with a proven track record for winning races where winning isn’t easy,” said Allard. “New Mexico Republicans should nominate a candidate in June who’ll be able to defeat the Democrats and hold Sen. Pete Domenici’s seat come January.”

Wilson and GOP Rep. Steve Pearce are vying for the party’s nomination. The winner will likely face Democratic Rep. Tom Udall.

Wilson welcomed the endorsement. “As a fellow Republican and Westerner, we see many of the most important issues facing our country in the same light,” she said.
