Erickson Loans $250,000 More To His Open Seat Campaign
Republican businessman Mike Erickson has loaned another $250,000 to his campaign for the seat held by retiring Rep. Darlene Hooley, D-Ore., and launched a round of TV ads attacking Republican rival Kevin Mannix's support for tax increases as a legislator, the Associated Press reported.
Erickson's loan brings to $590,000 the amount of money he has chipped in to his bid this year. He spent $1.6 million of his own money on his unsuccessful 2006 run against Hooley.
Erickson's latest loan triggers the "millionaire's amendment," which triples the amount Mannix can collect from individual contributors.
Much of Erickson's money has gone into TV ads aimed at overcoming Mannix's better name recognition among 5th District Republican voters. The primary is set for May 20.
