Republicans Wanting Reynolds’ Seat Look To Gain Support
Businessman Christopher Lee appears to be well positioned to pick up the GOP endorsement to succeed Rep. Thomas Reynolds, R-N.Y., the Buffalo News reported.
However, other candidates are still reaching out to party leaders for support.
The leading alternative candidate is Rick Lewis, president of Talking Phone Book, who is supported by Erie County Executive Chris Collins. He said he has the backing of two county Republican chairmen.
Erie County Conservative Party Chairman Ralph Lorigo also said this week he is “moving toward” supporting Lewis.
If Lorigo backs Lewis, observers say that could strengthen his case as Republicans look to stay out of dividing their vote among three candidates in the general election, with the prospect of Lee being on the GOP line, Lewis on the Conservative line and a Democratic nominee.
