House Cancels Week's Votes

House votes for the entire week have been canceled, as the capital hunkers down for its second major winter storm in less than two weeks. But Senate Majority Leader Reid said that chamber may work into the weekend on jobs legislation.

Cloture Defeated On Becker

A cloture vote on the nomination of Craig Becker to join the National Labor Relations Board fell short this afternoon, spelling defeat for the nomination. The vote, with many senators absent, was 52-33 for cloture, eight short of the 60 needed.

House Speaker Pelosi's top healthcare adviser today outlined a plan that would allow both chambers to make changes to the Senate healthcare overhaul before the overhaul becomes law.

President Obama convened a rare meeting that included Republican congressional leaders today, imploring them to come together with Democrats to find "areas we agree and we can get some things done."

Physician Fix Timing Still In Flux In Jobs Bill

Senate leaders appear to still be negotiating the scope of a delay in Medicare physician payment cuts looming on March 1, with one draft circulating today calling for blocking the 21 percent cuts for seven months until Oct. 1.

Anti-Obesity Campaign Launched

First Lady Michelle Obama today launched a childhood anti-obesity campaign to require legislative and policy changes, while President Obama signed a memorandum of understanding among several Cabinet-level departments establishing a task force to come up with a plan within 90 days to end childhood obesity "within a generation."

Hoyer: Dicks To Replace Murtha

House Majority Leader Hoyer said today he expects Rep. Norm Dicks, D-Wash., to ascend to the chairmanship of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, succeeding the late Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., who died Monday.
