The 2012 House and Senate elections brought over 80 new members to Washington. Use this interactive application to sort and filter the freshmen by age, experience, ethnicity, and more. Hover over each picture for name, state, and district information. To read a full narrative of each newcomer, written by the staff of The Almanac of American Politics, click the member's picture. UPDATE, Nov. 15: You can now also sort the new members by percentage of the vote, and by how much money was spent to elect them. This estimate, provided by the Sunlight Foundation, represents what each newly elected official's campaign committee spent (as of Oct. 17, the most recent reports available at the Federal Election Commission) plus what super PACs and other outside interest groups provided to help elect them. In many cases, most of this outside spending was for negative advertising aimed against the winning candidates' opponents.
