Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., D-Ill., is undergoing an “extensive inpatient evaluation for depression and for gastrointestinal issues” at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., the Associated Press and Reuters report, citing a statement released Friday from Jackson's office by the hospital.
Jackson’s whereabouts had been unknown since June 10, when he took a leave of absence. Earlier this month, “under mounting pressure from fellow politicians and others,” Jackson’s office released a statement from an unnamed physician saying that Jackson is “receiving intensive medical treatment at a residential treatment facility for a mood disorder," but did not specify his condition or location.
Jackson is the eldest son of civil rights activist Rev. Jesse Jackson.
