Reid on Obama Campaign: 'They Have to Guard Their Money'

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said that just because the White House is not offering Senate Democrats help with campaign cash for 2012, doesn’t mean there is a disconnect within the party.

“I don’t know why anyone’s concerned with the conversations we’ve had,” Reid said on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday. “They have to guard their money. I didn’t expect them to bring their checkbook with them.”

In 2008 and 2010, Reid and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi were able to hit up Obama for America and the Democratic National Committee for money. In what will surely be an expensive campaign for reelection, President Obama and his staff have decided they cannot provide the same type of financial support this time around.

When asked by host Candy Crowley if that was representative of a detachment between the Senate and the White House Reid said, “Boy, I really don’t.”

“I feel very good about my relationship with the White House and the Senate’s relationship,” he said.
