Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was taken to the hospital early Friday morning but is "feeling better," according to a statement from his office.

"Early this morning, Senator Reid was not feeling well and as a precaution decided to go to the hospital. Tests have been conducted and everything is normal. He is alert, resting, and feeling better," spokesman Adam Jentleson said in a statement. "Doctors have asked that he remain in the hospital for observation, so he will not be working today."

Reid, 74, was on the Senate floor as late as 10 p.m. Thursday to announce an agreement between his caucus and Senate Republicans on the timing of votes on presidential nominations.

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill., is stepping in for Reid on Friday. The Senate has six roll-call votes Friday morning and then is expected to gavel out for the remainder of the year.
