House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has chosen her five conferees to negotiate the next deal on the payroll tax holiday.
Saying that there was still “work to do to ensure this extension lasts through 2012,” Pelosi appointed Reps. Sandy Levin, the Ranking member of the Ways and Means Committee; Xavier Becerra, the vice chair of the House Dmocratic Caucus; Chris Van Hollen, the Ranking Member of the Budget Committee; Allyson Schwarts, the Vice Ranking member of the Budget Committee; and Henry Waxman, the Ranking member of Energy and Commerce Committee.
“Today is a victory for all Americans – for the security of our middle class, for the health of our seniors, and for economic growth and job creation,” Pelosi said in a statement after a two month extension passed the House and Senate by unanimous consent. “The American people spoke out clearly and, thanks to President Obama's leadership, 160 million Americans will continue to receive their payroll tax cut – nearly $40 per paycheck in the pockets of the average family.”
