Kevin McCarthy and Steve Scalise won't be the only ones with new jobs after midnight Thursday when they officially take over as House majority leader and majority whip. So, too, will their top staffers.

Both have already announced some of the new hires and desk-shuffling, including that McCarthy is hiring several of outgoing Majority Leader Eric Cantor's leadership office staffers to carry out similar roles on his team.

Among them are Neil Bradley, who will serve as McCarthy's deputy chief of staff. That's the same title Bradley held under Cantor for two years, and, before that, under Majority Whip Roy Blunt for four years.

Meanwhile, Scalise has hired Bill Hughes, who for six years served as policy director to former Speaker Dennis Hastert, to be his whip office's policy director. A Capitol Hill veteran of 27 years, Hughes comes directly from a job as executive vice president for the Retail Industry Leaders Association.

Here are their other top aides:

McCARTHY

Veteran Hill staffer Rob Borden will serve as the majority leader's director of oversight, advising Republicans on investigative "priorities," a job he held in Cantor's majority leader operations. Borden is a former general counsel of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Robert Story Karem will move in as McCarthy's policy adviser, the same job he held under Cantor. He previously had been an adviser to former Vice President Dick Cheney—including assisting on research and editing of Cheney's memoirs and as Middle East policy adviser on Cheney's national security staff.

Roger Mahan also will serve as policy adviser to McCarthy, a job he held under Cantor. Before that, he was deputy assistant secretary for legislation at the Health and Human Services Department, and legislative director and press secretary to then-Rep. Wally Herger, R-Calif.

SCALISE

Scalise's personal congressional office chief of staff, Lynnel Ruckert, will assume a role as chief of staff to the majority whip. Ruckert has been a Scalise staffer since his election to Congress in 2008 and had previously worked for then-Reps. David Vitter and Bobby Jindal of Louisiana.

Eric Zulkosky is to be the new whip's director of member services and policy adviser. He was Scalise'slegislative director in his personal congressional office, and before that, had worked as an aide to Sen. Mike Johanns, R-Neb., and then-Sen. Elizabeth Dole, R-N.C.

Brett Horton will be director of floor operations and counsel, coming from roles as policy director and counsel with the Republican Study Committee, which Scalise chaired. Before that, he had served as legislative counsel to Scalise.

T.J. Tatum will serve as the whip's communications director, after a role as communications director at the Republican Study Committee and in Scalise's personal office. He has previously served on the staffs of Rep. Vern Buchanan of Florida and then-Rep. Quico Canseco of Texas.

Scalise also announced this week that Parker Hamilton Poling will serve as chief of staff to Chief Deputy Whip Patrick McHenry of North Carolina. Parker has previously worked for the House Education and the Workforce Committee and in the White House Office of Media Affairs under President George W. Bush.
