In an audio message released on Tuesday, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords tell her southern Arizona constituents, "I'm getting stronger. I'm getting better."

Giffords, who was shot in the head at a gathering with constituents in January, goes on to say, “I want to go back to work." The Democrat has only returned to the Hill to work once -- to vote on the debt-ceiling deal this summer -- since the shooting in the outskirts of Tucson in which 11 people were injured and six were killed.

The recording follows the broadcast of her first televised interview on Monday. Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, spoke with ABC's Diane Sawyer about her ongoing recovery and their joint memoir.
