From the Department of Congressmen Tweeting Poorly: 'Tear Down These Barricades!'

Let this be a lesson for press teams: Before blasting out a YouTube missive, check to make sure it meshes well with breaking news.

Minutes after a woman attempted to crash her car into the White House barricades before being involved in a shooting at the Capitol, Rep. Doug Lamborn, R-Colo., tweeted a demand for President Obama to "tear down these barricades!"

"Take down your barricades," Lamborn said in the accompanying video, "and let the people in!"

As one person on Twitter responded, "Sounds like those barricades were needed for security today."

The congressman, who in his floor speech was referring to the barriers at national parks and monuments due to the government shutdown, clearly meant no harm. But the tweet came at a pretty jaw-droppingly inopportune time.

House Speaker John Boehner, on the other hand, managed to navigate Twitter a bit better.
