A body of a man found Friday afternoon in an outdoor area near the U.S. Capitol has been taken to a medical examiner's office.
Few other details were being released, except that the body was discovered shortly after noon in an area known as Lower Senate Park, after an initial report of the discovery of an unconscious man.
The U.S. Capitol Police and Metropolitan Police are continuing to investigate. Neither the identity of the man nor the cause of death has been determined. Foul play is not suspected but has not yet been officially ruled out.
Police have reopened the area near the Capitol where the body was found, including Delaware Avenue between Massachusetts Avenue NE and C Street NE, which had been closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
The body has been transported by the D.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
