Boehner Irons His Own Shirts

He’s a snappy dresser, infamous as one of the few Republican men who proudly wears pink. He’s uses a tanning salon. He loves smoking. So how did House Speaker John Boehner cultivate his look?

“Mostly just me. I've tried to keep it simple. I've tried to keep it neat and clean,” he said on CNN’s State of the Union. “I take great pride that I wash and iron my own shirts.”

If it is true that ironing shirts is therapeutic, Boehner arguably could use it, having a notoriously difficult time keeping his rowdy GOP caucus in line. But the shirts do look good.

“The cleaners just ruin them,” Boehner said.  “I want it done right. It’s a pain, but when I put my shirt on, I know it’s done right.”
