House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., will meet with President Obama at the White House Wednesday afternoon, a leadership aide said.
Democratic leaders are meeting with Obama at 2:50 p.m., and the Republicans are slated to go at 5 p.m.
The House aide said the Republicans will discuss raising the debt ceiling and legislative options to avoid a government default.
House Republicans are waiting for Senate consideration of its just-passed "cut, cap and balance" bill. That initative's inevitable demise in the Senate is drawing Boehner and Cantor in talks about other options, including the bipartisan Gang of Six proposal that includes both revenue increases and spending cuts to reduce the deficit.
