Rep. Dennis Cardoza, D-Calif., told the Sacramento Bee he will resign on Wednesday.

  • Cardoza, a Blue Dog Democrat, already announced last year that this would be his last term. He said family struggles were his primary reason for leaving early, along with partisan gridlock.
  •  Because Cardoza is resigning so late in the year, there will not be a special election to replace him.
  • Cardoza is one of 19 Democrats who did not vote for Nancy Pelosi for Speaker in January 2011. Five, including Cardoza, have decided to leave the House, while another two lost Democratic primaries
