CAMPAIGN 2012

Perry Stresses Constitutional Principles In Iowa Caucus

Rick Perry gave an animated speech in Clive, Iowa, telling caucus attendees on Tuesday evening that a Perry presidency would mean a strong America and fidelity to the Constitution.

“This election's not about me. It's about you. It's about our children. It's about our grandchildren. And it's about having a president of the United States who respects the Constitution of this country, who understands that we must pass a balanced budget amendment to the United States Constitution and do it as soon as we can,” the Texas governor said, in remarks broadcast by CNN.

He also stressed that America needs a president who respects the 10th Amendment, explaining that the amendment "basically says that the federal government was created by the states, that federal government was created by the states to be an agent for states, not the other way around."

"You have my back tonight in this caucus, and I promise you one thing. For the next four years, I will have your back in Washington, D.C.," Perry  said.
