Steve Beshear (D), a former lieutenant governor, won with 59% of the vote. He was nominated with 41% of the vote in a six-way primary.

Walter Boasso (D), state senator, recieved 17% of the vote.
Foster Campbell (D), former state senator, recieved 12 % of the vote.

Bobby Jindal (R), congressman, won the primary outright with 54% of the vote, enough to avoid a runoff.

John Georges (I), businessman, recieved 14% of the vote.
