Commerce Official To Lead Yahoo's Relations With Democrats

March 16, 2012

Yahoo has hired a top Commerce Department adviser to oversee the Internet company's government relations with Democrats.

April Boyd, currently the assistant secretary of Commerce for Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs, will become Yahoo's senior director of Federal Government Affairs. She will report to Margaret Nagle, who head's the company's federal government affairs office.

"April's experience on Capitol Hill and within the administration will add great strategic vision to our growing Yahoo! team," said David Hantman, vice president of global public policy for Yahoo. "She brings with her a unique understanding of patents, Internet privacy and spectrum management - all issues that critically impact our more than 700 million users."

Boyd previously worked on the Hill, including stints as former Democratic Rep. Ellen Tauscher's chief of staff, and as press secretary for Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass.

Boyd will start work on April 9th.
