Lots of Holdovers on DCCC Staff

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s retention of so many staffers from the last election cycle indicates that, by and large, House Democrats were happy with a performance that saw them gain eight seats last year. That’s not a large swing, but it did exceed expectations after an unfavorable redistricting process whittled away many of their pickup opportunities.

Democrats must win a net of 17 seats next year to recapture a majority in the House.

Here’s the DCCC’s staff announcement, in the committee’s own words:

Senior Staff for the 2014 Cycle

Jackie Forte-Mackay will continue to serve as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) charged with overseeing the Committee’s finances and compliance reporting with the Federal Elections Commission (FEC). This will mark Ms. Forte-Mackay’s 10th cycle as the DCCC’s CFO.

Hayley Dierker will serve as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and will manage the DCCC’s day-to-day operations. Ms. Dierker was previously the DCCC’s Chief-of-Staff to Chairman Steve Israel and previously worked with Congressmen Scott Murphy and Don Cazayoux.  Dierker will also serve as a senior advisor to Chairman Israel.

Lila Rose will serve as the Chief Administrative Officer, following her role as Deputy Director of the Committee's 2012 Independent Expenditure Program. Ms. Rose previously worked for Senator Bob Casey, former DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen, and Congressman Ron Klein. She also served on both the 2010 and 2008 DCCC IE Programs and the National Democratic Redistricting Trust.

Member and Candidate Support Team

Brian Zuzenak will serve as the Political Director and will lead incumbent protection for the Committee, including the DCCC’s Frontline program. Mr. Zuzenak was a Regional Political Director last cycle. He previously ran Congressional races in Nevada and Missouri, and served as Executive Director of the Missouri Democratic Party.

Ian Russell will serve as the DCCC's Campaign and Candidate Recruitment Director. A native of Michigan, Mr. Russell was the DCCC's Midwest Political Director during the 2012 cycle. Prior to that, he worked on federal and state races across the Midwest.

Charles Benton will serve as the DCCC’s Director of Member Services, which provides support for Democratic Members of Congress while they conduct their political activities.  Mr. Benton has worked in national Democratic politics since 2004 and has led the DCCC’s Member Services team since September 2011.

Adam Broder will return to the DCCC for a fourth cycle, serving as the DCCC’s Research Director and Strategic Communications Advisor. Mr. Broder started at the DCCC in the research department in 2007, and later served as the Western Regional Analyst and Deputy Research Director.

Emily Bittner will serve as National Press Secretary and Senior Communications Advisor. Ms. Bittner, a former reporter, most recently served asCommunications Director for Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.). She was Communications Director for the Democratic Governors Association during 39 gubernatorial races and ran communications for the Arizona Democratic Party in 2008.

Nicole Eynard will serve as Candidate Fundraising Director for the 2014 cycle. In 2012, Ms. Eynard served as the Midwest Candidate Services Regional Director at the DCCC. Previously she worked as finance staff on Senate, gubernatorial, and House races in Missouri and Pennsylvania.

Finance Team

Stella Ross will serve as the DCCC's National Finance Director. In the 2011-2012 cycle, Ms. Ross held the position of DCCC Deputy National Finance Director as well as Finance Director for Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi's re-election committee.

Brandon English will continue serving as Digital Director. Mr. English managed the Committee’s online fundraising, communications, and social media programs in the 2012 cycle when the DCCC shattered fundraising records by raising over $50 million online to support Democratic campaigns. Mr. English previously served as Deputy Director of New Media at the DCCC.

Joe Cross will serve as the DCCC’s Director of Direct Marketing, managing the day-to-day operations for the Committee’s direct marketing efforts, including all direct mail and telemarketing fundraising campaigns. Mr. Cross has provided fundraising support to a variety of Democratic candidates and national non-profits, and returns to the DCCC having served in the direct marketing department in the 2004 and 2006 cycles.
