Will Moderate House Dems Be Key to a Deal?
Moderate House Democrats say now could be their time to shine, our National Journal Daily colleagues report today.
The reason, the argument goes, is that House Speaker John Boehner will need help from across the aisle to get any deal he might agree to with President Obama through the lower chamber.

It’s no small task for Boehner to secure enough Republican votes for a deal that would likely include revenue increases as well as spending cuts. He will certainly lose votes in his conference on the right, and many believe that to get something through the House, he will have to get help from across the aisle. This is why moderate House Democrats feel this is their time to shine.
“I do think we can play a role if Speaker Boehner comes up with a proposal that can’t win all of his conference, he is going to need moderate Democrats to form some kind of coalition to get something done,” said Rep. Dan Boren, D-Okla., a departing member of Congress and the whip of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Democrats.
