Tim Scott Already Making Senate Fundraising Pitch

Future South Carolina Senator Tim Scott may have only been in Washington for two years, but he clearly knows how the game is played.

Just hours after Governor Nikki Haley announced that the freshman Congressman would be replacing Sen. Jim DeMint, Scott already had a fundraising email go out from VoteTimScott.com. The essence of the email was—without any sense of irony—that it's going to take money to keep the government from spending money.

"We must work together to stand up to the big spenders in Washington," he wrote. "Will you join with me by donating what you can here? I have set a goal of reaching 10,000 contributors in 48 hours and would appreciate your help."

Scott noted in the email that he will have to run for re-election in 2014 and said that the support was needed to "help ensure we keep this seat in Republican hands."
