Sherrod Brown, Bennet Land Spots on Senate Finance
The Democratic Steering Committee approved committee assignments for the Senate side Wednesday.
The new crop of freshman senators scored a number of key posts. Sen.-elect Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., earned posts to Agriculture, Armed Services and Aging. Sen.-elect Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.M. earned a plethora of posts, to Agriculture, Banking, Homeland Security, Small Business and Indian Affairs. Sen.-elect Tim Kaine, D-Va., will serve on Armed Services, Budget, and Foreign Relations.
Massachusetts Sen.-elect Elizabeth Warren earned a plum post to the Banking Committee, as well as positions on Aging and Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. New Mexico Sen.-elect Martin Heinrich will join the Energy, Intelligence and Joint Economic Committees. Connecticut's Sen.-elect Chris Murphy will also serve on the Joint Economic Committee, HELP, and Foreign Relations. Sen.-elect Tammy Baldwin, D-Wisc, will serve on HELP, Homeland Security, Aging and Budget. Hawaii's Sen.-elect Mazie Hirono will serve on Energy, Judiciary and Veterans Affairs.
Independent Sen.-elect Angus King earned spots on the Armed Services, Intelligence, Budget and Rules Committees, though he fell short of his coveted spot on Finance. Two openings there went to Sens. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, and Michael Bennet, D-Colo.
