Rules Committee Bids Tim Scott a Warm Farewell

The Rules Committee is sending Senator-to-be Tim Scott out in style.

Rep. Richard Nugent of Florida presented Scott with a gray sweater, which he called a "shawl," at a Rules Committee hearing over defense authorization legislation on Wednesday.

Nugent said Scott, who will be succeeding Sen. Jim DeMint after he leaves for the Heritage Foundation in the upper chamber, might need it for warmth in the "august" body.

Scott, took the gift, looked it up and down and said, "Do you have a receipt?"

Cue laughter from his colleagues.

UPDATE: Rep. Rob Bishop, R-Utah, provided more detail on the shawl. "It is designed to match the wheelchair and walker that you will be given as senator," he said. Scott did not miss a beat. "I can't even say thank you," he said.
