News Roundup: The Senate GOP Fiscal Cliff Plan

Morning Alley readers. Here's what we're reading today:

Before the latest Boehner-Obama meeting yesterday, senior Senate Republicans were busy crafting their own fiscal cliff fallback plan, reports The Washington Post. That plan wouldn't significantly rein in debt and it'd extend tax cuts for the vast majority of Americans, seemingly giving in to Democrats' demands to extend rates on all but top earners.

President Obama kept up his public messaging to bring pressure on Congressional Republicans Thursday, saying on Minnesota local television station WCCO that House Republicans need to move on the Senate-passed bill to extend tax cuts for middle income earners.

Sen. Daniel Inouye, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, is coming under pressure from colleagues to give up his gavel, The Hill reports.

Stephen Colbert is outta the super PAC game, reports Politico. He's donating to charity the money raised by the Better Tomorrow Tomorrow super PAC -- which has funneled money through the nonprofit Colbert Super PAC SHH Institute and now, apparently, through the Ham Rove Memorial Fund.
