The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare is fiscal-cliff messaging on the Hill today.

NCPSSM President and CEO Max Richtman is meeting with Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee members today before the organization delivers petitions signed by some 65,000 seniors to Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., that call for taking Social Security and Medicare off the table in the current fiscal cliff discussions.

Sanders founded the Defend Social Security Caucus, which includes Sens. Daniel Akaka, D-Hawaii; Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn.; Barbara Boxer, D-Calif.; Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio; Maria Cantwell, D-Wash.; Tom Harkin, D-Iowa; Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J.; Robert Menendez, D-N.J.; Jeff Merkley, D-Ore.; Barbara Mikulski, D-Md.; Jack Reed, D-R.I.; Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.; Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich.; and Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I.
