House Republicans emerged Monday night from a closed-door meeting with Speaker John Boehner, saying they’d been given no details of the potential deal, but were told not to stray far from the Capitol for the rest of New Year’s Eve.

Speaker John Boehner briefed members of his conference on the working McConnell-Biden deal in a meeting that lasted about a half hour today. "We're waiting on the Senate but we'll remain here tomorrow and the second," Rep. Darrell Issa said Boehner told lawmakers.

The Senate hasn't reached an agreement and "we will be here" until they do, Rep. Tom Price said the speaker told members. Asked when that might be, Price laughed. "We'll be here tomorrow," he said. Both Issa and Price said it was premature to discuss the merits of the plan.

Boehner "told us to stick around and stay sober – semi-sober, anyhow,” said Rep. John Carter, R-Tex.

Others echoed that Boehner told members to remain ready for late-night activity. But most said they sensed there will be no House action until Tuesday, at the earliest, when they House will remain in session.

“Stay tuned for details,” was how Rep. C.W. “Bill” Young, R-Fla., described the lack of specifics provided to members.
