Chris Frates On Power, People And Influence From Capitol Hill To K Street

Who Will Be The Next Mayor of Capitol Hill?

Rep. Dan Lungren, R-Calif., officially conceded to Democratic challenger Ami Bera over the weekend, leaving the position of House Administration Committee Chair —a.k.a., Mayor of Capitol Hill —wide open.

The committee oversees legislative agencies, including Capitol Hill Police, and the chairman leads New Member Orientation (an awkward position for Lungren as he trains his successor).

Next in line for the seat is Rep. Gregg Harper, R-Miss., who has thus far declined to indicate interest in the job.

“Congressman Harper is confident that the speaker will select the best member to lead the committee,” a spokesman for Harper said.
