The Energy Subcommittee Chair Shuffle
House Energy and Commerce Chairman Fred Upton, R-Mich., announced the new subcommittee chairs and vice-chairs of the powerful panel on Wednesday, most of which brought about by retiring or defeated GOP lawmakers.
In all there will be two new subcommittee chairs and five new subcommittee vice chairs.
Two Republicans who lost reelection – Reps. Mary Bono Mack of California and Cliff Stearns of Florida – opened up spots atop the Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade and the Oversight and Investigations subcommittees. Rep. Lee Terry, R-Neb., and Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Penn., will take each of those gavels, respectively.
Another notable move: Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., will replace retiring Rep. Sue Myrick, R-N.C., as the vice chair of the full panel. Here is the new roster of GOP leaders on the expansive panel:
