Nominating Speakers Line Up for McMorris Rodgers and Price

House Republicans are preparing to vote in secret starting at 2 p.m. on Wednesday in party leadership elections. There is no contest for the top three jobs. Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., are all unopposed.

But the contest for the No. 4 job of conference chairman is competitive. It pits Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington, the current vice chair, against Tom Price of Georgia, whose post of Republican Policy Committee chairman makes him the fifth highest-ranked Republican. Both hopefuls have released the names of colleagues who will be nominating them in the closed-door meeting and offering seconding speeches.

Price has in his corner Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, fresh off his vice presidential bid; Ways and Means Committee Chairman David Camp of Michigan; and Rep. Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming. McMorris Rodgers has Rep. Tim Scott, R-S.C., a freshman representative on Boehner’s leadership team; Rep. Bob Goodlatte of Virginia, and Rep. Corey Gardner of Colorado.
