Fudge to Head CBC, Kind to Head New Dems

The Congressional Black Caucus unanimously elected Democratic Rep. Marcia Fudge of Ohio as chair today.

“The caucus is a collective voice to promote equal access to quality health care and education, reduce poverty, strengthen Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid and balance the federal budget in a fiscally responsible way," Fudge said in a statement.

The Caucus also unanimously elected Reps:

G.K. Butterfield as First Vice Chair

Yvette Clarke as Second Vice Chair

André Carson as Secretary

Karen Bass as Whip

In other Democratic leadership news, Rep. Ron Kind of Wisconsin, was unanimously elected to serve as chair of the New Democrat Coalition, replacing outgoing chair Rep. Joe Crowley of New York.
