Weekly Outside Group Spending Tops $100M

If for some reason you thought that outside groups would wind down their spending in the lead-up to Nov 6, you were, well, quite mistaken.

For the first time, these groups topped the $100 million spending mark in just one week, so reports Sunlight Foundation, a watchdog group.

And it isn't even all presidential; last week, House races attracted $34.7 million, Senate races attracted $34.3 million, while $33.3 million was spent on the Obama v. Romney showdown.

Pro-Republican outside groups have consistently spent more than pro-Democratic ones since Sept. 7, which is when all independent political expenditures had to be reported. This week, pro-GOP groups spent nearly $58 million, with pro-Dem groups spending nearly $50.5 million.

See more breakdowns (and some fancy charts) over at Sunlight.
