National Restaurant Association Expands Policy Shop

The National Restaurant Association is expanding its policy and government affairs shop to include all of its communications and research teams.

Executive vice president of policy and government affairs Scott DeFife is in charge of a doubled staff of 40. Hudson Riehle, senior vice president of research and knowledge for NRA, and Sue Hensley, senior vice president of public affairs and communications, will both continue in their roles.

"This integration will ensure we are even stronger in our mission to promote pro-restaurant policy and regulations, elect a pro-restaurant Congress, have the financial support to win restaurant-related policy battles across the nation, and engage all segments of the industry in our efforts," said NRA President and CEO Dawn Sweeney said in a statement.

The National Restaurant Association spent nearly $1.6 million on lobbying thus far in 2012, according to data from the Center for Responsive Politics.
