Cantor At Yoho Fundraiser, Ole-Timey Barnstorming Against Cantor

October 17, 2012
Only two short months ago, upstart Republican House candidate Ted Yoho of Florida was airing a TV ad comparing career politicians to pigs. That was en route to upsetting Rep. Cliff Stearns in an August primary. Now, Yoho is being welcomed by the top GOP brass. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is in Yoho's district today for a "VIP champagne reception," with tickets for eight to the reception costing $1,000.

Meanwhile, Democrat Wayne Powell, Cantor's challenger in Virginia's newly drawn 7th Congressional District, is set to "barnstorm" in Gordonsville, Ashland, Culpeper, Mineral, Goochland, and Glen Allen on Oct. 23 and 24 with Dr. Ralph Stanley.

Stanely is a member of the Grand Ole Opry whose work was featured in the George Clooney film O Brother, Where Art Thou? "Since Eric Cantor doesn't spend much, if any, time with the people in the district, I think that the barnstorm title 'O Cantor, Where Are Thou?' is perfect," Powell said.

Shane Goldmacher and Billy House contributed.
