Akin Gets Support From Bauer-Backed PAC

Rep. Todd Akin, R-Mo. (Almanac of American Politics)

Rep. Todd Akin's fight for a Senate seat has become quite a lonely one ever since his controversial remarks about rape. But not everyone has abandoned him -- the Campaign for Working Families is throwing its support behind the embattled Missouri congressman as he seeks to unseat Democrat Sen. Claire McCaskill.

As of Aug. 31, the Gary Bauer-backed PAC had nearly $1.17 million in cash on hand.

"Representative Akin has an exceptional record that should not be nullified by one statement for which he has sincerely apologized," Bauer said in a statement. "He is the epitome of Missouri's common sense conservative values and represents real change from the failed Obama/McCaskill policies."

Last week, Sen. Jim DeMint announced he's also backing Akin, with his PAC committing $290,000 for the candidate.
