Why Clyburn and Becerra Got Bumped

Two top House Democrats, Reps. James Clyburn and Xavier Becerra, who were expected to speak at the party's convention, were absent from the stage in Charlotte on Tuesday night.

The reason? Not enough time because of the "applauses," a Democratic official told the Alley.

"Due to the overwhelming enthusiasm in the arena and extended applauses, Rep. Clyburn and Rep. Becerra generously agreed to move their speeches to Thursday," the official said.

Clyburn of South Carolina is assistant Democratic leader, and Becerra of California is the vice chairman of the House Democratic Caucus.
