SCOOP: Commerce's Friedman to Obama Campaign

Jen Friedman, the Commerce Department's public affairs director, has left the department to join President Obama's re-election campaign in Chicago, according to sources familiar with the move.

In Chicago, she'll be a senior adviser to communications director Brent Colburn, working closely with surrogate communications director Ellen Qualls. Friedman will help oversee the campaign's surrogate operation, focusing on battleground states, according to a campaign source.

Prior to her work at Commerce, she served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Strategic Communications at the Department of Homeland Security and as vice president and communications director for the Albright Stonebridge Group, working closely with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
