Schumer and D.C. Water
Local water and sewer utility DC Water was pushing New York Sen. Chuck Schumer to have tap water served during the festivities, rather than New York's Saratoga Springs bottled water. (Schumer leads the Joint Inaugural Ceremonies Committee). Now, it turns out that both types of H20 -- fancy and regular -- will be served.
In a letter to the D.C. Water General Manager George Hawkins, Schumer wrote that "DC tap water will be available just as it is in the Capitol every day." He added that "the addition of Sparkling Saratoga Spring Water to the offerings in the Capitol is no different than bottled soda, bottled juices, and other beverages that are sold in soda machines, in the restaurants, and in the various sundry shops in the Capitol complex."
Schumer writes that apparently past inauguration luncheon attendees have request sparkling water. So, there you have it: ask and ye shall receive.
