Meet the Man Who Will Keep RNC Running 'Smoothly'

When he goes to Tampa for the Republican National Convention next week, House Rules Committee Chairman David Dreier will be serving as parliamentarian, just as he's done in the three previous GOP conventions, a Rules Committee aide told the Alley.

The convention does its business, adopting a platform and picking the presidential ticket, using House rules.

"Dreier will be the one that makes sure everything goes smoothly by interpreting the rules for what happens when - essentially he makes sure things go in an orderly fashion," Rules Committee spokesman Doug Andres said.

Dreier is retiring at the end of his current term after serving in the House since 1980.
