Boehner Press Aide To Work On Ryan VP Effort

House Speaker John Boehner's press secretary, Michael Steel, will be leaving that job to work on Rep. Paul Ryan's vice presidential campaign team.

Steel, 35, a native of North Carolina, has previously worked for former Reps. John Shadegg of Arizona and Jim McCrery of Louisiana. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina and also has received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University.

Multiple sources have confirmed the move. Steel will technically be on leave from his job with the Speaker's office, and that he is departing for the vice presidential campaign with Boehner's blessing and encouragement.

Steel also had worked for a one-time National Journal outfit called National Journal News Service. His byline had appeared in CongressDaily (now National Journal Daily), National Journal magazine and online.
