Chris Frates On Power, People And Influence From Capitol Hill To K Street

Thanks for the Super PAC Contribution, Mom

Our colleagues over at Hotline on Call have the latest on a Washington-state-based super PAC kerfuffle in which a political action group formed to attack a candidate was funded entirely by the mother of her opponent.

Yes, moms appear to be funding super PACs now.

So here's what happened, as reported by the Seattle Times: Laura Ruderman's mother, Margaret Rothschild contributed $115,000 to the political group Progress for Washington to attack Suzan DelBene in the 1st District race in the Evergreen State.

Hotline on Call's Sean Sullivan explains what this means.

There is no apparent evidence to suggest improper coordination in Washington's 1st District, but the episode is a reminder that while outside groups aren't allowed to coordinate with the candidates they support, the entities often involve people who have formed longstanding, close relationships with them.
