Obama Campaign Throws 'The Wire' Fundraiser

Nothing says "give me a lot of money for my political campaign because it's something you should believe in" than HBO's The Wire. OK, maybe not -- the David Simon show focuses, in part, on the corrupt aspects of politics -- but that's not stopping the Obama campaign from throwing a fundraiser featuring cast members from the gritty television series set in Baltimore.

The Sunlight Foundation's Party Time blog has the details on the event, which will take place on Martha's Vineyard on Aug. 15. (I don't know what's more ironic -- using The Wire's credibility to raise political capital, or having the thing on Martha's Vineyard. Thoughts?)

The fundraiser costs $250 to attend and $2,500 to be on the host committee.

As Party Time notes, there aren't many hints as to which cast member will be in attendance. But my money is on Michael Kenneth Williams. He's the actor who played Omar Little, which is President Obama's favorite character from the series. (I sense a "every man's got to have a code" themed fundraiser next.)
