Cantor: Pelosi Israel Comments Are 'Deeply Insulting'

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., on Sunday was among those criticizing Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., for suggesting Republicans are exploiting the activism of some Jewish voters by depicting President Obama as distant toward Israel, when "what they really want are tax cuts for the wealthy."

In response to Pelosi's assertion on Bloomberg Television's "Political Capital with Al Hunt," Cantor, who is Jewish, said in a statement that "It is both patronizing and deeply insulting for Nancy Pelosi to suggest any Jew is 'exploited' for their political beliefs or that support for Israel is somehow an 'excuse' for anything. Such thinking diminishes the importance of issues affecting Jews everywhere."

Pelosi had said that "as many of the Republicans are using Israel as an excuse, what they really want are tax cuts for the wealthy. So Israel, that can be one reason they put forth." She added that Republican Jewish supporters are "being exploited."
