Dreier Hearts Dick Clark in House Rules Committee

The question before the Rules Committee today: How to proceed with the House floor vote on holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress, a story that you might have read about.

So it makes sense that Committee Chairman David Dreier, a California Republican who's retiring after this term, opened the hearing by memorializing Dick Clark. Wait, the Dick Clark? Yes, he of New Year's Rockin' Eve fame.

Why? Clark's widow, Kari, who is a friend of Dreier's, was at the meeting.

"They are close personal friends. She's in town and came by the office for a visit," an aide to Dreier told the Alley.

Dreier told her that he was sorry for her loss.

"Dick Clark was the epitome of the American spirit. Someone who loved the United States of America," he said.
