Online Marketers Hire Monument to Lobby Online Sales Tax Bill

The Performance Marketing Association, a California-based association representing online marketers and advertisers, is entering the online sales tax fray, enlisting Monument Policy Group to lobby in support of bills that would require online retailers to collect sales tax from out-of-state customers.

PMA favors the bills because they would establish a national standard for online sales tax collection instead of leaving it to states to pass a patchwork of different laws, which could hurt the online marketing industry.

Brick-and-mortar retailers and some online retailers have been sparring over the legislation, but PMA's lobbying on the issue will focus on how small businesses like many of the online advertisers will benefit from a federal standard.
